When Manchester United’s home squad lost to Brighton by a score of 1-3 in the fifth round of the Premier League, the visiting fans chanted Ronaldo’s name in unison.
Fans at Old Trafford began chanting “Viva Ronaldo” after substitute Hannibal Mejbri cut the home team’s deficit to 1-3 in the 73rd minute.
Man United supporters used this chant when cheering on a player who appeared in games for the team twice (2003–2009 and 2021–2022). The cry quickly grew louder and eventually drowned out a section of spectators.

Ronaldo was released from Man Utd and transferred to Al Nasr in the month of January. The 38-year-old striker had previously stunned audiences with an interview he gave to MC Piers Morgan. There, he said that Man Utd had betrayed him, that he did not respect Erik ten Hag, and that the club’s infrastructure and operations had stalled.
There were early indications of life for Man Utd under Ten Hag after Ronaldo’s departure. They finished in the Premier League’s top four and also won the League Cup. The “Red Devils” started the season 0-3, losing to Tottenham, Arsenal, and Brighton in the first five rounds. By chanting Ronaldo’s name, Man Utd fans have shown that they no longer back Ten Hag, as they did during the confrontation between the two.

A Ronaldo admirer wrote, “Suddenly I remember the time he single-handedly beat this super team Brighton.” Someone else remarked, “Ronaldo demonstrates who is in charge.”
The emcee Piers Morgan chimed in, saying, “Does anyone still doubt that Ronaldo was 100% right about the club and Ten Hag after watching Man Utd’s weak defeat at home against Brighton?” When Ronaldo left, things quickly went downhill.
Man Utd started off yesterday’s game strong, created many chances but failed to capitalize on any of them, and ultimately gave up a goal to an opponent’s former player, Danny Welbeck, in the 20th minute. Two more goals were scored against them early in the second half, this time by Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro. A goal scored by the young midfielder Hannibal wasn’t enough to console the home crowd.
After the third goal was conceded, many Man Utd fans exited the stadium. Many fans were upset when coach Ten Hag benched Rasmus Hojlund, a rookie, in favor of Anthony Martial, a veteran who has scored just twice in 15 games.
