LeBron James is ready to begin his 21st season in the NBA and is obviously contemplating his post-playing future. As he approaches his 40th birthday in December, James has already established a robust business portfolio, highlighted by SpringHill Entertainment, his production company.
It’s common knowledge that before James retires, he would like to get some playing time in with his son Bronny. James’s first ambitious scheme for his retirement years is finally gaining traction.
Following his retirement, James would like to purchаse an NBA franchise in Las Vegas. During an interview after the Los Angeles Lakers’ preseason win against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday, he discussed his desire to one day own a team in Las Vegas.
When questioned about the possibility of NBA expansion to Las Vegas, James replied, “I think it’s only a matter of time, and I hope I’m part of that time.”
After the NBA renews its television contract in 2025, the league plans to revisit the issue of expansion. Construction of a new basketball arena in Las Vegas is scheduled to begin in 2026. All-Star Weekend has previously been held in Vegas, and the city also plays host to the NBA’s annual summer league and the U.S. national team’s training camp.
It appears that both Las Vegas and Seattle will soon get NBA expansion franchises.
James fired out this tweet as word of his postgame remarks began making the rounds.
James is no stranger to sports club ownership; he is a part owner of the Fenway Sports Group, which also holds stakes in the Boston Red Sox, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Liverpool FC.
